What is The Drone Light Show?

The Drone Light Show is a division of Great Lakes Drone Company, LLC operated under Starlight Drone Shows brand. We are headquartered out of Coloma, Michigan in the USA, however travel globally to meet the needs of our clients.

We travel with a minimum of 2 staff members for all of our shows. This is increased for every additional 25 drones incorporated into the show design.

Great Lakes Drone Company is excited to present The Drone Light Show by Starlight Aerial Productions at your next event! Just ask us how we can make that happen for you!

Stock Show Services

We currently have hundreds of stock shows available for our drone show’s. This seems to be the most popular for lower end budgets. Show consists of several shapes in conjunction with synced musical platform. Show lasts 15 minutes from start to finish.

Custom Show Services

Custom show services allows our teams to work together to create the ultimate aerial performance. We take your vision and make it reality in the sky! This can consist of as small of a show with 25 drones to hundreds of drones in the sky! Show times can be altered to a shorter one image show, different performance area, or staggered show to create a 30, 45, or one hour show while constantly maintaining a minimum of 25 drones in the air at all times.

What approvals do you have?

We are authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to fly hundreds of drones with one operator under 2022-P107-00689 Waiver Approval. This approval is often associated with airspace authorization requests based on the geographic location of the requested show.

How many drones are in a show?

This varies based on show design and client needs. We typically do shows in sets of 25, 50, 75, 100, 200 or more at this time.

Can you fly over people?

Currently we do not perform any shows over people in accordance to FAA regulations and general safety standards. However shows are developed from a pixel perspective in which distance provides better viewing. Imagine standing close to your TV, you really can’t make out the shape until you step back to see the whole picture come together. Same principles apply during a drone light show. We have minimum set-backs not only for viewing but safety standards as well.

Can the drones fly over water?

Any of our shows can be performed over land, water and anything in between!

What about the weather?

Weather is always a factor when you look at flying anything in the air. Obviously even fireworks has it’s weather limitations.  Our weather standards are designed behind safety and operational control requirements to guarantee you the best possible outcome. Winds less than 25 mph with gusting no more than 15 mph differential. Light rain or snow is possible. Minimal three mile visibility with cloud separation of 1,000 feet vertically and horizontally and ambient temperatures between 23F and 104F.

How long does it take to program a custom show?

It is hard to give you an exact answer due to all the variables. How many drones are in the show, what is our current show load, how complex are the designs you want detailed in the show all factor in to this timeline. Typically most shows can be designed in 4-6 weeks from initial conception to flight performance testing to start. Our dedicated programmers work directly with your team to bring your vision to life!

Are the shows synced with music?

YES! Our stock shows come synced with a baseline music profile. This baseline can also be changed to meet the clients needs on a stock show. All custom shows are built from the ground up to incorporate any musical integration into the performance. Music is not required, however provides a unique and entertaining dynamic to your audience.

How bright are the drones?

Actual LED brightness is based on Lux level, for one drone is 512 RGBW. Our shows at altitude have been clearly seen from 5 miles away at the 200ft performance level!

Are there any airspace restrictions?

Airspace is a complicated subject to give a blanket answer to. We can perform anywhere in the US with proper approvals, the real question is how long does it take to get the approval? Our blanket approval is good for all Class G airspace within the United States National Airspace System. If you are near a military installation, or a larger regional or international airport we may need time to get approvals from the FAA. Just reach out to us with an address and we can tell you fairly quickly if we need to file an airspace authorization or not. The sooner you contact us for a show, the sooner we can work with the FAA on approvals. These typically 30 to 60 days depending on complexity. Occasionally we get them approved sooner, however the more time we have to plan, the more successful we are in securing the authorizations.
